It is common for the most ambitious people to search for the position that gives them the greatest leverage Throughout history, the functions that had the most leverage have changed. A thousand years ago it was probably a priest who controlled the land and the people of their area. A hundred years ago it was military leaders who could move armies by sending a letter. 10 years ago it was the bankers of New York, who could move massive amounts of wealth with their signature. The ambitious strive for the greatest leverage. Finance still remains the #1 career sector that ivy league graduates pursue. But in recent years, ambitious graduates are increasingly pursuing technology instead of finance. Writing code is becoming higher leverage than writing checks. Billions of people could be impacted every day because of the code you write. Technology companies can scale to nearly unbound sizes and it is becoming the new default path for ambitious people.
